From outstanding pitching performances to stellar rookie debuts, the Cranberry Baseball League is thrilled to announce the 2023 regular-season award winners, as we honor those who excelled on the diamond both individually and collectively.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Jack Haynes of the Canton A's and Chase Cahill of the Braintree White Sox emerged as co-recipients of the prestigious Pitcher of the Year award.
Haynes delivered a flawless 4-0 record, giving up a mere 6 hits and 5 earned runs across 22 innings, boasting an impressive 1.59 ERA to go along with 22 strikeouts. His highlight reel included a memorable perfect game against the Northeast Lions on July 11.
Meanwhile, Cahill continued to dazzle for the White Sox, posting an undefeated 5-0 record while allowing just 4 runs (2 earned) and 15 hits over 36 innings. With a minuscule 0.39 ERA and a 0.639 WHIP, Cahill consistently stifled opposing batters, delivering several standout performances, including three one-hit games.
Congratulations to both Jack and Chase for their exceptional achievements on the mound.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Ryan Douglas of the Hock Valley Panthers secured the coveted title of Player of the Year for his outstanding all-around contributions in the 2023 regular season. Douglas showcased his versatility and prowess both at the plate and on the mound, emerging as a true game-changer for his squad.
Offensively, Douglas boasted a solid .320 batting average, notching 24 hits, including 3 home runs, and driving in 17 runs. His standout performance came on June 29 against the Scituate Stripers, where he launched two three-run homers and a run-scoring double en route to a 7-RBI game.
In addition to his offensive prowess, Douglas also showcased his skills on the mound, tallying a 3-1 record with a stellar 1.31 ERA across 26 2/3 innings. His crowning achievement came on June 19 in the form of a five-inning no-hitter against the Mass. Hurricanes, further solidifying his status as a two-way star on the field.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Reece Rappoli from the Braintree White Sox has been named the 2023 Cranberry League Rookie of the Year. The first-year shortstop made an immediate impact both at the plate and on the field, showcasing remarkable talent and potential in his inaugural season.
Rappoli boasted a .260 batting average with three home runs and 20 RBIs while displaying steady defensive prowess at shortstop. As Rappoli continues to develop and hone his skills, the future looks bright for this promising young talent. We look forward to witnessing his continued growth and success in the seasons to come.
MANAGER OF THE YEAR
Lucas Carr of the Canton A's has been recognized as the 2023 Manager of the Year for his exemplary leadership and dedication to his team's overall success.
Carr guided the A's to an impressive 18 regular-season wins and a strong showing in the playoffs, culminating in a finals berth versus the Braintree White Sox.
Known for his ability to maximize player potential and foster a competitive yet enjoyable team environment, Carr's leadership extended beyond the dugout, as he even donned the catcher's gear for four games during the regular season. Whether traveling to games by Uber or boat, his passion and dedication to the game and his players are clear, making him a deserving recipient of this award.
